NEWBORN SESSION INFORMATION
Congratulations on your new bundle of joy!
Your baby changes and grows so quickly within their first year. Having a newborn photo session is a great way to remember your child as they are growing and changing everyday. I would love to help document your child and family as they grow.
TYPE OF NEWBORN SESSION: STUDIO/LIFESTYLE (IN HOME)
You have the choice of having a studio/posed photo session or a lifestyle photo session.
The studio/posed session would be done at my studio and with a backdrop and props that I provide at no additional cost to you (baskets, bowls, wraps, headbands, and some clothing like bonnet and knitted pants).
The lifestyle session is done in your home environment with a focus on connection of you and your baby and storytelling. It's capturing your newborn's bedroom and details of it and the environment around him/her. Of course, I can do posed positions as well. If you would like both types of sessions, please let me know and I will see what I can do.
Studio Newborn Session
Studio/posed session: When you arrive at the studio, I will have the studio area warm so your new bundle of joy will be comfortable during the session. Newborns are usually photographed within the first 5-14 days of being born as they are easier to pose into different positions curled up since they are so flexible at this stage. If your newborn is older than 14 days, they can still be photographed but there's no guarantee baby will be put into certain poses based on their flexibility and personality. Some babies just don't like to be moved in a certain way and I respect that. Newborns are usually sleepy for these poses, but they do what they want and could be awake as well.
Our session will be at least 2 hours in length.
Lifestyle - In Home Newborn Session
Lifestyle session: When I first arrive at your home, I generally ask for a tour of your home. Here we will chat, go over the details you'd like me to capture for your session, meet your new addition, and get to know your other children if you have more. I'll get familiar with your space, the light, and I'll discuss my plan for your session. At every newborn session I follow the baby's lead, or if there is a toddler running around, they are the boss for the day. I have a loose order in which I shoot, but I keep that completely flexible depending on feed times, cuddle breaks, and toddlers being toddlers. I give direction and guidance to a point, such as positioning you in the best light, asking you to look at each, look at your baby, etc. but mostly I am just creating a space and opportunities for connections to happen naturally. We usually start in the master bedroom, move to the nursery/kids bedrooms, and then to the main living area. If the weather cooperates we can also take some portraits in your backyard. If you're happy with more awake, interactive images of your new baby, a session can take place anytime in the first three months.
Just be ready for me to come in and capture your family. The reality is that you don't want anything too distracting in your images. The main spaces I generally shoot in during a session are the master bedroom, the nursery, and the main living area so these are the areas you should focus on when preparing for your session. If you need some guidance you are more than welcome to send me through some images of your spaces for advice before your session. Ultimately I will only shoot in the areas with the best natural light.
